What Is the Parapet Wall Clamp?

The Parapet Wall Clamp (HLM-GRPC2PG) is one of five anchoring options available for the Hilmerson Safety Rail System™, giving teams the flexibility to safely install guardrails on a variety of edge conditions. This clamp allows safety professionals to:

  • Securely attach rails to parapet walls without penetrating surfaces
  • Maintain full OSHA compliance on rooftops or elevated walkways
  • Transition from one rail attachment method to another with ease

The Parapet Wall Clamp is built with simplicity and jobsite efficiency in mind—delivering real savings in setup time, labor, and long-term maintenance.

FAQ: When Can a Parapet Be Used as a Guardrail?

Great question—and one that’s often misunderstood in the field.

According to OSHA standards (29 CFR 1926.502), a parapet may be used as a guardrail only if it meets the required criteria:

  • Height: The parapet must be at least 42 inches high (±3 inches) from the walking or working surface.
  • Strength: It must be capable of withstanding 200 pounds of force applied in any outward or downward direction.
  • Continuity: The parapet should offer continuous edge protection without significant gaps or openings.

If a parapet wall does not meet these requirements, it must be supplemented with a compliant guardrail system—such as the Hilmerson Parapet Clamp Guardrail System—to ensure adequate fall protection.

This is why our system is so valuable: even on parapets under 42″, you can now install OSHA-compliant guardrails without compromising the structure.
