Innovation Secures Critical Perimeter Control & Efficiency for High-Profile Construction Sites

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded Hilmerson Safety™ U.S. Patent D885,868 for its barrier fence saddle mounting bracket, also known as the Side Saddle Bracket™. Granted on June 2, 2020, the patent recognizes the invention of the saddle mounting bracket that simplifies attaching fence panels to j/f barriers and prevents recurring damage while eliminating easy access points for trespassers and vandals.

Hilmerson Barrier Fence System™ Available thru Warning Lites of MN Rental Product Line in the Midwest - Side Saddle Bracket

Common barrier fence challenges like broken bolts, loose fencing, foothold gaps, and difficulty creating construction through-ways are all combated with the patented Side Saddle Bracket™ of the Hilmerson Barrier Fence System™.

Traditionally, top mount barrier fence system posts are drilled into the end of a barrier and another post is drilled 20’ down the fence line. A 4’ high fence is then unrolled and pulled from beginning to end to create the perimeter. Loose fencing and gaps between the fencing and barrier make points of vulnerability for intruders to push and slip thru or stand and scale over. Top mount anchors commonly protrude up after disassembly and the bolts rust or get bent when barriers are stacked for transportation and/or storage. Posts are then offset and re-anchored for future installations causing recurring barrier damage.

“Simply put, with the Side Saddle Bracket™ once you drill and drop the anchor into a barrier you never have to do it again on future job sites,” said Deb Hilmerson, President & CEO of Hilmerson Safety®. “The anchor stays with the barrier. If you use the same barrier all that is required for reinstallation is to remove the bolt, install the side saddle bracket™, secure the bolt and you’re off and running again.”

Designed to last 15+ years, this Construction-Grade™ panelized fence system offers non-penetrable security for construction sites with hot-dipped, 13-gauge, galvanized steel posts supporting all sides of the panel perimeter and center. Heavy duty chain link is applied with vertical tighteners. Individual panels mount tight to each barrier with the patented Side Saddle Bracket™. Construction access points can be created at any time by forking a barrier to a new location.

The made in America Hilmerson Barrier Fence System™ is currently protecting critical construction projects across the United States including a 1.5 mile perimeter around the KCI Airport Terminal Expansion in Kansas City, Missouri – a Clark / Weitz / Clarkson (CWC) Joint Venture and 1100 lf of barrier between a Minneapolis, Minnesota Public Service Building & light rail track – a Mortenson project.

“We needed a product that installed rapidly to minimize any Metro Light Rail disruptions,” said 40-year veteran, Sr. Superintendent, Rich Bistodeau of Mortenson. “The team allocated 4 hours for the fence installation. The ability to install the Hilmerson Barrier Fence System™ in 1/4 of the time saved us significant time, money and schedule. The Hilmerson Barrier Fence System™ is virtually maintenance free. We installed it over 1.5 years ago and haven’t touched it since. We added heavy duty privacy screening and banners that would typically add significant strain to a barrier fence system, however, the panels are straight as an arrow.”
